Wow. That is just disgusting, but yet unsurprising. And this is coming in a town this is one of the most bike friendly in the country.
Wow, Fucktard of the Year award candidate. Front runner for certain.
Events like this just make me sick. I get so tired of the de-humanization of people.
Fucking hell, and I thought my sense humour was a bit offensive. I hope he gets a proper kicking. Is talk radio now just a pissing contest of who's the world's biggest fucktard?
Morning talk radio is pretty much that.
you know, i'm not even bothered. i expect this shit from talk radio shows in the morning. it's always a contest of who can sink the lowest, who can be the most crass and offensive, and who can raise the most angry uproar while at the same time boosting their ratings and the number of people who are aware of them ( and it's rarely ever funny or original).
i had no idea about this show until this moment and i'm sure a lot of other people didn't know they existed until that comment. they've tapped into a population that most likely ignored them until now, and even though this population isn't happy, it's publicity. i even admit that i checked out their website because curiosity got the best of me, and now they have another hit on their website because of it.
the website was what i expected. sex sex sex, stupidity, and being as crude as possible.
"Check out this clip of DuRyan feeling up his mom"
Great grammar as well:
"Good job guy's. Way to get your message out."
the comments they post about the topic are also what i expected: all filtered to agree with the DJ and make the targeted bike riding population look bad. the posted comments are so poorly argued that they only make me roll my eyes. i was aware that these ignorant anti-biking assholes existed well before they came out of the woodwork to agree with the DJ, and i don't think the DJ's comments will have any real effect on his listening audience. they'll probably forget about this topic when the DJ distracts them with another show about porn and midgets.
Actually it was a misquote-I listen to that show in the morning on my drive into work. I remember that show on Thursday clearly and this morning they were joking because the website completely misquoted what he actually said so they could get a rise out of people. The people up in arms right now have never even listened to the show...

What did he actually say? The quote isn't from their website (because they aren't posting a webcast of that specific show) but from someone who was listening to the show.

What he actually said was that he was driving to work and that he almost hit a person riding a bike on accident because the rider flew in front of his car and that you are stupid if you ride a bike like that. That his vehicle does not care about your life when you yourself do not. He said car versus bike and you will loose and you should acknowledge that when on the rode or you will die. He said when you do something that dumb, you are asking to get run over. I remember it clearly because I was thinking, "hell yes!" as he was saying it-same freaking day I nearly ran over three different people on bike's for riding with no brains and nearly crashing into my car! Our friends ride their bikes safely and follow road rules-unfortunately most people drive like idiots and take chances they should not because they assume drivers see them.

No one is "asking for it," no matter how short their skirt. I do think bicyclists should follow the rules of the road, but I've had numerous drivers veer into me without signalling, honk when they are behind me, cut me off on purpose, pass without leaving enough space, yell at me, yak on their cell phones, and generally be stupid asswipes, that I have no sympathy for drivers. None. Get off the road if you can't behave responsibly. The same goes for irresponsible cyclists - with one *vast* difference: a bicycle won't kill you.
A car weighs 3,000lb. A bike with a rider weighs 200lb. Drivers need to wake up and realize they are pushing a lethal weapon. Joking about killing bicyclists, even ones that piss you off, is completely uncool because it happens all the time.

Yep, it is a constant problem for both parties. Personally I am a safe driver and very cautious when I am around anyone-whether that be another motorist, a pedestrian or a person on a bike. If I drive unsafely I put my life and other's into jeopardy. No one may be "asking for it" but this week alone (keep in mind it is Monday) I had a group of three cyclists fly out in front of my car (thank god for anti-lock breaks!) from a side street and two bikes driving towards downtown on Barnes Rd in the middle of the street in the middle of the night wearing all black. I saw them, when I came around the bend-had I been in the left lane instead of the right, well, I shutter to think. In my part of town there are alot of bike riders on the road and very few I see are remotely safe about it-they seriously act like they are the other thing on the road which is unfortunate-because not everyone (by a long shot) has the patience or eyesight that I do.

I'm sorry if that sounded harsh. It's just a subject that makes me upset because I bike every day and there have been a lot of deaths lately.

Oh sweetie-it did not at all and I know you are very passionate about the subject. I worry about my friends constantly who ride bikes because so many of you do. Like I said, I watch for you two wheeled folks but I know how horribly the other drivers in this state drive!

PS. Apparently the same show insults retarded people too. They're just begging for attention... from 13 year old boys. Why do you listen to that shit?

I have no clue what they are talking about with the website pictures or murder crap-the website is separate (for the most part) from the actual morning show. The show is actually the only thing amusing on during the few minutes I drive to work each morning. Most of it is funny banter and people writing in questions etc or rants about random crap. The show host is more like the Howard Stern type where they just talk about whatever randomness and some comment gets made which leads to a group of people saying they are evil etc etc.
Is it shitty to joke about cars killing cyclists? Yah, especially for people who ride bikes to work. Is it shitty to joke about the mentally disabled? Yah, especially for people who are or who have a member of their family that is. Is it shitty to joke about dead babies? Yah, especially for someone who just lost one. However, it's okay to joke. It's okay to laugh. It's okay to realize that people are not serious 100% of the time, especially if they're radio DJs looking to get a rise. Do I think it's particularly funny? No, but I realize it was in jest, not a serious call to kill cyclists or muse on any recent deaths.
Morning jocks are just that, jocks. Icky, sweaty, smelly, under-endowed manboys. Ick. Sometimes stereotypes exist for a reason.
As for car versus bike, I walk and it's still unsafe. Daily car people are usually ignorant at some level or they wouldn't a) be rushed, b) have a need to haul so much crap, c) vain (I don't ride the bus with THOSE people types), or d) unaware of their lack of multi-tasking capabilities with which they never were blessed in the first place.
Some days I fantasize about a national FCC blanket pirating by NPR subjecting all the other listening demographics to hear some real news. Um...I can see the confusion.
That's lousy. I am guessing we're going to be hearing about someone getting FIRED from that radio station soon! Loser! |
